ETS-Lindgren Absorber Selection Guide

EHP EMC/RF Absorber

The EHP (Extra High Performance) microwave absorber from ETS-Lindgren is intended for use over a broad frequency range and is used to reduce reflections from 30 MHz to 100 GHz. Each absorber is made from the highest-quality urethane foam available, which is precisely cut into bun configurations and then impregnated with conductive carbon using a specialised formulation.

HP High Power EMC/RF Absorber

ETS-Lindgren High-temperature materials are used to create their HP High Power Microwave Absorbers. The highest temperature polymer currently available, conductive polyimide resin film, is applied to the pyramidal-shaped substrate.

The substrate is made of nylon honeycomb, which is thermally stable up to 250 °C (482 °F). Because of the materials’ high-temperature properties and honeycomb structure, “pump-down” for high vacuum applications is quick with little outgassing. The flammability of HP Series Absorber is significantly lower than that of conventional microwave absorbers, as the material is extremely difficult to ignite. If ignited, the EHP HP Series Absorber will quickly self-extinguish after the ignition source is removed.

Walkway EMC/RF Absorber

When it comes to fully anechoic chambers, for ease of access MDL offers Walkway Absorbers. These are special absorbent material that is compatible with anechoic chamber reflection requirements, yet provides a walking surface for personnel.

The typical pyramidal or wedge absorber is enclosed in low-density rigid polystyrene foam. A thin sheet of semi-rigid polyvinyl chloride foam is adhered to the top to provide a smooth and dirt-resistant walking surface. This Walkway Absorber can support up to 90.7 kg per.3 metre (200 pounds per ft2) and is both durable and easy to maintain.

Wedge EMC/RF Absorber

The Wedge Absorber from ETS-Lindgren effectively reduces reflections between 30 MHz and 100 GHz, and its RF reflectivity levels are the same as those of its equivalent-sized pyramid absorber. Wedge absorbers are used in chambers where pyramid absorbers would provide excessive backscatter in certain configurations.

ETS-Lindgren guarantees that its EHP absorbent material meets material fire retardancy standards. Wedge absorbers can also be provided in transitional parts that provide a continuous line in the absorber, such as a 12.7 cm (5 in) wedge to a 31.1 cm (12.3 in) wedge. These parts typically measure 61 cm x 121.9 cm (2 ft x 4 ft) or 61 cm x 182.9 cm (2 ft x 6 ft) in length and are used in tapered or compact range chambers.

Other types of EMC/RF Absorbers

MDL offers a wide range of EMC/RF Absorbers, including Microwave Pyramidal Absorber, FS EMC absorbers, and DSH-Hybrid Absorber.

What is an Anechoic chamber and what is it used for?

What is the difference between a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC) and a Semi-Anechoic Chamber (SAC)?

A semi-anechoic chamber (SAC) and a fully anechoic chamber (FAC) are both specialised facilities used for testing the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and radio frequency (RF) performance of devices. Both types of chambers are designed to eliminate or reduce reflections of electromagnetic waves, which allows for more accurate and reliable testing results.
