EMC Topics and Abstracts
Highlighting the differences in EMI Measurements performed by Spectrum Analyzers with EMC Functions vs. Pre and Full Compliant Receivers in the presence of Pulses with Low Repetition Frequency, according to the requirements of CISPR 16-1-1 Standard
A comparison of EMI measurement performance of a Spectrum Analyzer, a Pre-Compliant Receiver, and a Full-Compliant Receiver. The advantage of the pre-sector available with a receiver and the benefit of the fully compliant receiver for picking up and measuring intermittent noise.
Also covered are the upcoming changes in IEC/EN 55014-1 for Household Appliances, specifically the discontinuous interference test ‘clicks’ and the impact on the EMI Analyzers that can be used.

Considerations for a successful EMC Test program
EMC testing can be a stressful process, but it doesn’t need to be. Careful planning and preparation prior to embarking on an EMC test program can ensure that things run smoothly. This presentation will provide helpful information on how to plan for a successful EMC test program, covering things like EMC test plans, pre compliance testing, product configuration requirements, EUT performance monitoring, test standards and costs.
– Ryan Fergus, EMC Systems Engineer

Radiated Emissions - Causes, Antennas, Noise, and Solutions
The Radiated Emissions test is often the hardest to pass at the EMC test lab. Let’s do something about that. In this talk, James will be carrying out a live demonstration showing how radiated emissions occur from circuits using simple concepts and circuit theory.
We will ask (and answer) questions like: Where does the noise come from? How is it radiating? What can I do about it? We will look at an example noisy product, try some common fixes, see how effective they are, and think about how best to implement them on our systems. You’ll leave this presentation with some useful mental models for how to Think about radiated emissions and what measures can be made to improve it.
– James Pawson, Managing Director
Unit 3 Compliance
Test methods for RF immunity testing
During the presentation, we will explore the test methods for conducted and radiated immunity testing. The advantages and disadvantages of mode stirred, mode-tuned, anechoic and GTEM chambers will be explained. Both compliant and pre-compliant test methods will be discussed, explaining the relevant advantages for the different setups, related to both the standards and needs of the customer.
Furthermore, we will delve into the essential requirements for the measuring equipment, with a particular focus on speed and accuracy. Finally, the performance and measurement criteria required by the EMC Immunity standards to cover all functions of the Device Under Test (DUT) will be discussed.
– Patrick Dijkstra, Owner and Head of R&D
